Stay Gold FAQ

Q:

How can I get involved?

A:

Classes are offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer. Subscribe to our newsletter to be alerted when new classes are announced. Classes will be listed on our website and registration is online.

Q:

Are these courses appropriate for beginners?

A:

Yes Almost all our courses are beginner friendly. Every class includes a wide range of experience levels, and instruction is differentiated to support the goals of each learner individually. Additionally, folks with more experience find the courses helpful in advancing their existing knowledge, maintaining consistent practice, and meeting like-minded peers.

Q:

How many weeks do the classes meet?

A:

Classes meet once a week for 3-8 weeks, depending on the course. A few topics are offered as one-session workshops.

Q:

The class I want to attend is sold out. Do you have a waitlist?

A:

The demand for classes often exceeds our capacity. Most classes are capped at 15 participants to ensure individualized instruction and a functional working environment in the studio. If you are interested in adding your name to a waitlist or want to be informed of the next time a particular medium is offered, please email the Manager of Lifelong Learning at lmoore@philbrook.org.

Q:

What happens if I miss a class or need to withdraw?

A:

Please let your instructor know if you plan to miss a class or touch base if you’ve had an unexpected absence. Your instructor may offer resources for getting caught up such as a summary of what was covered, a handout, a video reference, or an exercise to practice. Private instruction time outside of class is at the discretion of the instructor and requires direct compensation for their services. All sales are final.

Q:

What can I expect at the first class?

A:

Before every class, students are required to check in at the Museum’s front desk. After check in, you will head downstairs to the studio where your instructor will greet you with a warm welcome and offer you a nametag. We typically do introductions on the first day and this is a great time to let your instructor know what you are hoping to gain from this experience. With this information, they can begin to attune their instruction to your individual interests and learning styles. Classes usually begin with a group lesson, demonstration, or discussion followed by a period of uninterrupted  work time’ during which the instructor is available for support. Some classes end with a period of sharing out or group reflection.

Q:

I have a question about accommodations for my disability. Who should I contact?

A:

For questions, to request accommodations, or to share feedback, contact us atguestexperience@philbrook.org or 918-748-5300. Learn more about Access at Philbrook.
