Budding young artists will embark on a journey of creativity that blends floral art with the flowery language of poetry. Campers will learn to press flowers, forage for natural treasures, and draw inspiration from Philbrook gardens and galleries, seeding mixed media art exploration with beginning verse and rhyme. Guided by teaching artist Harper Kitchens, campers will grow their artistic skills and cultivate a love for the poetic wonders found in nature.

12:45pm: PM Camp Check-In
1-4pm: PM Camp Session

About the Teaching Artist: Harper Kitchens
Harper Kitchens is a multimedia neo-romantic poet, mother, storyteller, performer, florist and altar maker living on occupied Osage, Cherokee, Muskogee (Creek) lands in Oklahoma. Her work acts as an archival exploration of the natural world and the ephemeral. She sees art making as a devotional practice, as a living altar: an ongoing conversation between grief and desire. Her work is an ever unfolding love letter to self-intimacy, to motherhood, to the power of pleasure, to the necessity of dreams, to the passing of time and the urgency of expression. Navigating these concepts she moves through poetry, installation, performance, sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, fiber art, curation and film.

What to Expect
A day at Camp Philbrook starts in our studios, but we quickly use the whole museum: art, gardens, etc. to explore what it means to be a creative thinker and maker. Our workshops are geared towards getting messy, working together and making space for every child’s ideas.

Here are a few things to know:

  1. This is a drop-off camp.
  2. We offer Before and After-Care.*
  3. All-Day campers need to bring a peanut-free lunch from home.
  4. We have pretzels or Goldfish crackers as morning snack and afternoon snack built into each camp session. Campers are welcome to bring their own peanut-free snack from home if they would like.
  5. We use the whole museum, which means we spend ample time outside when the weather permits. Please pack a water bottle daily and arrive wearing sunscreen and bug spray.
  6. Your days at Philbrook will be filled with creative energy and fun! Please make sure to dress for mess and outdoor exploration.

*Before or After-Care
