Join us for an action-packed afternoon inspired by the exhibition SAMURAI.

Philbrook Director of Learning Tracy Truels, along with special guests, will draw connections between the television series Shogun, martial arts, and the seven centuries of samurai armor and arms on view. Onstage, Michael Lindsay of Tulsa Kendo Dojo will narrate live demonstrations of sword techniques. From Vancouver, Peter Pao will appear via video to share behind-the-scenes stories from the series Shogun. His dojo, Vancouver Eishin Ryu Iaido Club, trained extras, cast members, and stunt actors in basic iaido sword work. This two-week “boot camp” took place before filming began on the Emmy award-winning series. Don’t miss this opportunity to delve deeper into why the ways of the samurai continue to fascinate us today.
