What is Festival?

A: Festival runs November 23 through December 31, 2018. The Museum comes alive with festive holiday events, visits from Santa, train rides, Lego Village, garden games, live music, shopping, décor, and thousands of lights in the gardens reflecting the spirit of the season. Gather the whole family for unforgettable experiences.

Festival Nights are special ticketed event nights which feature a NEW light show in the gardens, a NEW train ride through the gardens, live music performances, make-and-take activities for the kids, refreshments, and other special programming.

What is the cost to attend Festival?

A: General Admission: $5 Members, $15 Not-Yet Members, $0 Youth 17 & Under
Family Package: $45 Members, $65 Not-Yet Members, $0 Youth 17 & Under

Family Package includes:
- Two (2) Adult admission tickets
- Three (3) make and take art activity tickets
- Six (6) single train ride tickets
- In addition, families may reserve as many $0 Youth (17 & Under) tickets as needed

Q:

What is included with Festival admission?

A: Festival admission includes access to the full museum grounds and gardens which are decorated for the holidays. This is includes the all new light show in the gardens, museum galleries and special exhibitions, a visit with Santa, Lego village, live music performances, and other special programs. There is an additional fee of $5 per person to ride the train and a fee of $5 per child to participate in the make and take art activity. Other special programs and pricing will be announced via the museum calendar.

How do I purchase tickets to ride the train and participate in the make and take art activity?

A: Train ride and make and take art activity tickets are available on all "Festival Night" events as part of the Festival Family Package ticket price. Tickets can also be purchased at the admissions desk.

Why is there an extra charge to attend Festival?

A: Festival nights are a special event featuring amenities outside of the normal museum experience and serve as a fundraiser for the museum. Funds generated through Festival support art access and education programs all year long.

How do I purchase a ticket for Festival? Can I buy tickets at the door?

A: Each Festival night has a limited capacity. Please pre-purchase tickets for all guests in your party to ensure your spot. If you do not pre-purchase tickets, your party may not be admitted if maximum capacity is reached.

What can I expect on a visit during Philbrook Festival?

A: Regardless of date and time, Philbrook visitors can expect a consistent experience including:
- Museum & Gardens decorated for the holiday season

At a Festival Night, visitors experience:

Where are the trees?

A: Philbrook has not displayed an exhibition of artist-created trees for a few years. However, the Museum is decorated for the holiday season and includes several large-scale, hand-decorated trees. Visitors may also shop local art in the Museum Shop.

When and where will Santa be?

A: Santa will be present on all Festival nights except his busiest of the year, Christmas Eve. Visitors can find Santa in the NEW illuminated cabin installation in the gardens to take photos and share Christmas wishes.

How do I get my photo with Santa? Is there a charge?

A: Visitors can find Santa in the NEW illuminated cabin installation in the gardens to take photos and share Christmas wishes. Visitors may take their own photo or purchase a Polaroid for $5.

Where are the gingerbreads?

A: Last year, Philbrook started a new holiday tradition. Our Gingerbread House display was replaced with something exciting and new… a Lego Village! Don’t miss the display in the Mezzanine and be sure to cast your vote for your favorite!

Q:

Who designed the Festival pin?

A: The 2018 Festival pin is designed by DiAnn Berry. DiAnn Berry’s art has always expressed her love of all things nature. Her recent work in encaustic inspired her to create Philbrook’s 80th anniversary Festival pin.

Encaustic is an ancient process in art using melted beeswax as the medium and has been used for centuries in painting, sculpting, collage and many other artistic expressions. A small amount of Damar resin is obtained from the Shorea tree which grows in India and is melted and mixed with beeswax to ensure the durability of the wax.

Festival pins are $35 and are available for purchase in the Museum Shop.

What activities are available for children?

A: Each Festival Night features a programmed light show in the gardens, a make and take art activity for children and families (additional ticket required per participant), admission to the imaginative Lego Village, and outdoor activities in the gardens. Children can also visit Santa to share their holiday wish list in our NEW artist-designed and illuminated log cabin. Children and adults alike can enjoy the new trackless train rides in the gardens (additional ticket ride required per person per ride).

Films, tours, and other special programs as part of Festival will be announced via the Museum calendar and at philbrook.org/Festival.

How do you get to the cabin?

A: The cabin is located across Crow Creek in the easternmost section of the garden. Festival maps are available at the admissions desk each Festival night.

How do I buy train tickets?

A: Tickets are available at the admissions desk and online as part of the Festival Family Package. Individual train tickets are not currently available on the website. Visitors who purchase a Festival Family Package and need train tickets in addition to those included with the Family Package can purchase these onsite at the admissions desk.

Q:

Can adults ride the train?

A: Adults and children aged 3 & above can ride the train. Children 3 & under must be accompanied under adult supervision. A single train ride is $5 and can be purchased at the admissions desk.

Where does the train go? How long is the ride?

A: A single train ride is about 5 minutes and travels between the Film Lawn and low foot bridge near the cabin.

What is the Festival Drawing Rally?

A: Festival Drawing Rally takes place on Friday, November 30, 6-9pm and is an art-making spectacle featuring dozens of local artists. These artists work in three, one-hour rounds to produce as many drawings as possible in their allotted time. Each of the completed drawings is available for sale as soon as it hits the wall (first come, first served). All proceeds support Philbrook.

A: Festival Drawing Rally is included with Festival Nights admission.

How much does the artwork cost?

A: Drawings are $35. Frames are available for purchase in the Museum Shop for an additional $35.

What is Children’s Party?

A: Children’s Party is a ticketed special event that takes place on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 2:00-4:00pm. It is an opportunity to bring your family together to create one-of-a-kind art projects perfect for holiday gift giving with a personal touch. Enjoy activities, refreshments, and a photo opportunity with Santa.

How much does it cost to attend Children’s Party?

A: Each Children’s Party ticket admits one (1) Adult and one (1) Child/Youth. Additional Adult admissions can be purchased for $10. Attendees should purchase one Children’s Party ticket per participating child and add the appropriate number of Adult tickets.

For example, a party consisting of two parents, one grandparent, and two children should purchase two Children’s Party tickets plus one additional Adult ticket.

Lego Village Submissions

We invite you to participate in our 2nd annual Philbrook Lego Village display.

This will be a juried contest with prizes. The three categories of participation are: Child (17 and under), Family and Adult. Kitchen 27

Kitchen 27 is the latest concept from acclaimed Chef James Shrader (Palace Café, Prairie Fire Pie). Incorporating items directly from the onsite Philbrook Edible Teaching Garden, Kitchen 27 combines a relaxed, casual setting with delicious dishes made from only the best ingredients. Open for lunch, weekend brunch, and Friday night dinner. Kitchen 27 also provides full scale catering services for your next party, wedding, or private event. Kitchen 27’s name is inspired by Philbrook history (founded 1927) and the Museum’s location (2727 S. Rockford Rd.)
