Text Without Message
Philbrook Downtown
Jan 07, 2017 - Apr 30, 2017
Christopher Wool, a superstar of the contemporary art world, debuted new work at Philbrook Downtown exploring text, abstraction, and the intersections between the two. Using preexisting linguistic symbols—words, letters, punctuation marks, and numbers—Wool detaches them from our usual understanding of how language functions. Text Without Message offered Philbrook visitors a unique perspective into the art of Wool, whom The New Yorker magazine hailed as “the most important American painter of his generation.”
