Rena Detrixhe: Red Dirt Rug
Rena Detrixhe uses Oklahoma red dirt in order to connect her project with the land and the people who live on it. In addition, she will be creating the piece in a public setting, connecting our visitors to her process. Detrixhe processes locally sourced soil into a fine powder. After spreading it in an even layer on the floor, Detrixhe goes section by section, pressing a pre-determined design into the smooth surface using found shoe soles to create intricate patterns. This installation will cover the entire central portion of the Philbrook Downtown’s Meinig Gallery.
