- 15 Reasons To Visit Philbrook This Summer
Philbrook & Philbrook Downtown
After launching in late 2011, the Philbrook Homeschool Art program continues to grow with a new class line-up this fall. With two age-appropriate classes offered, students benefit from small class sizes and the Philbrook permanent collection each month. According to the National Home Education Research Institute, there are over 2 million home-educated schoolage children in the United States. Philbrook Member Georgia Hsu and her five-year-old son, Maoi, recently decided to homeschool. After seeing a post on the Philbrook Facebook page, Georgia signed up immediately, believing strongly that “exposure to art leads to a richer educational experience.” Longtime Philbrook Member Donna Anderson beams with joy watching grandchildren Nora, 7, and Liam, 5, tour the Museum with Philbrook Teaching Artist Andrea Wamble. For Donna art education isn’t just essential, it’s personal; “My mother was an artist, I have a degree in art, and when I homeschooled my own children, art was a huge focus.” For more information on the Members-only Philbrook Homeschool Art program, visit philbrook.org/homeschool.
