About the Artist: Kalyn Fay Barnoski
My work is fueled by the traditional textiles and crafts, stories, language and history of my Cherokee heritage, as well as the overall influence of intertribal Indigeneity. It is actualized through the combination of many mediums, including: graphic design, English and Cherokee language, video and animation, image sourcing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, textile, embroidery, and painting. Through these, I allow my cultural background, along with the convoluted nature of my existence as both white and indigenous, to influence my work, simultaneously.

The current emphasis of my work is on indigenous land rights, historical land issues, and the creation of alternate futures for the land. It is meant to encourage observation and questioning of historical motives as it pertains to indigenous land, to educate viewers on historical and contemporary indigenous land issues, and to help the viewer question their own role in history and future.
