This class is part of the Stay Gold Sessions, a series of art and nature-inspired workshops for older adults ages 55+.

Feel the cool autumn air on your face as you paint with friends amongst Philbrook’s 25 acres of stunning gardens. “En Plein Air” is the French expression for “in the open air” and the term refers to a rich history popularized by The Impressionists; intrepid artists breaking free from the confines of the studio to capture the changing light over the landscape. Teaching Artist Kenneth Brown will explain the process from preparation through to completion. Explore topics such as gear preparation, site-selection, composition, value scale, color-mixing, and more! Both beginning and experienced artists will hone dynamic new skills while working with gouache paint, a water-based, high-pigment paint that is easy to clean and free from harmful chemicals.

All supplies are included, and no artistic experience is necessary.

About the Artist
Born into a family of muleskinners and grain harvesters in the Texas boomtown of Pioneer, Kenneth Brown found it wouldn’t be long before his work in the wheat fields gave way to a passion for the outdoors. After serving in the Army, a severe accident forced Brown to reorient himself towards a deeper connection with the beauty of the natural world. He credits art with improving his quality of life and health. Brown is now an award-winning artist and expert instructor in his field.
