Ages 9-12, third Wednesday of each month

$10 per class, Philbrook Members only (1 month)

Homeschool art experiences at Philbrook are specifically designed to provide opportunities for social interaction and to foster creative experimentation and making.

This semester we will be using art to explore new ways of thinking about familiar ideas by experimenting with artmaking techniques in the studio, exploring new ideas in the galleries, and bridging art and nature in the gardens. Students will practice valuable critical thinking skills such as flexible thinking, collaboration, risk-taking, and playful experimentation through creative exploration.

Each month builds on concepts explored in previous sessions; however, classes are structured as individual units so that students may join at any time without needing any previous curriculum to participate fully.

The Teaching Artist

Since getting her BFA in painting and ceramics, Osage artist Lydia Cheshewalla has expanded her artistic exploration into social practices. Her work focuses on blending traditional methodology and rituals with modern material and process, keeping in mind sustainability and accountability.

Lydia recently started, with Cyterica Kahl, the Holy Mother Collective, a collaborative art space that cultivates inclusivity, builds community and celebrates individuality.

Please arrive at 12:45p.m. Class begins promptly at 1:00pm and ends at 3:00pm.
