Spend the day in the studios and gardens, and explore nature with artist Lydia Cheshewalla. Together, we will create nature-inspired artwork and even join Philbrook garden staff to discover how people and plants work together and sustain a healthy ecosystem. We will get muddy and explore the tradition of seed keeping and create our own seed keepers out of clay. Create one-of-a-kind seed sculptures out of native wildflowers.

About the Teaching Artist
Lydia Cheshewalla is an Osage artist living and working in Tulsa. She graduated from OU with a BFA in painting and ceramics, and has since expanded her artistic exploration into social practices. Her work focuses on blending traditional methodology and rituals with modern material and process, keeping in mind sustainability and accountability. She draws inspiration heavily from her Indigenous background, referencing both earth and the unknown through repeated symbol and motif. Her work is created fluidly and intuitively, flowing from an emotional center as an expression of her understanding and connection to the environment around her, and draws attention to the simple beauty of the natural world. Lydia has recently started an art collective in Tulsa, called Holy Mother Collective, alongside fellow artist Cyterica Kahl. Holy Mother was created with the purpose of creating a space for collaboration, cultivating inclusivity, generating communication, and manifesting opportunity. Through art, Holy Mother is actively working to build community and empower individuals to create spaces that serve their specific needs while growing and maintaining a network of shared resources.

What to Expect
All workshop participants will break for lunch between noon and 1:00pm. Please send your child to their workshop with a packed lunch and a water bottle. We will spend time in our gardens, so please ensure your child arrives with bug spray and sunscreen already applied, and bring extra for reapplication if necessary.

Before & After-Care
Before & After Care is offered for each day of Fall Break Workshops for an additional $10 per child. With the addition of Before & After Care to your ticket, you may drop your child off as early as 7:45am, and pick your child up at the end of the day between 4:00pm and 5:30pm.
