About the Teaching Artist: Beth Henley
Elizabeth Henley is a painter and multimedia artist from Tulsa, Oklahoma. While living and working in Tulsa, she also attended several schools, including studying Interior Design at Oklahoma State University. After several color theory and art classes, she realized her main passion was creating artwork through visual art. She began displaying her work publicly in 2015, but then refocused her pursuits to finding space in her local art scene for artists of color, specifically Black Artists in the Tulsa area. This desire to see inclusion and diversity in art led her to found and create Black Moon in 2018, an all Black artist collective here in Tulsa focused on breaking standards, pushing innovation, and cultivating creativity among her local community. With the formation of Black Moon, Elizabeth and fellow artists have shown in several galleries and exhibitions throughout the Oklahoma area. Her goal is to grow and develop her skills as an artist, but to also show representation through diversity in her pieces.
Beth’s Artist Statement
I create art as a form of expression, communication, therapy, escape, and need. Currently, I am exploring themes of strength, afro-futurism, and femininity. A few years back, I had health complications and major surgery that made me stop and take note of what was truly important. I re-prioritized my pursuits, and decided to make creating art not just a passion, but a lifestyle.
What to Expect
Our teen workshops start in our studios, but we quickly use the whole museum: art, gardens, etc. to explore what it means to be a creative thinker and maker. Our workshops are geared towards getting messy, working together and making space for every teen’s ideas.
Here are a few things to know:
- We offer Before and After Care.**
- Teens must bring their own lunch, free of peanut products.
- We use the whole museum, which means we spend ample time outside when the weather permits.
- Your day at Philbrook will be filled with creative energy and fun! Please make sure to dress for mess and outdoor exploration.
**Before & After Care
Before & After Care is offered as a package for the camp week for an additional $10 per teen. With the addition of Before & After Care to your ticket, you may drop your teen off as early as 7:45am, and pick your teen up at the end of the day between 4:00pm and 5:30pm.
All sales are final. Tickets, Memberships, and Donations are nonrefundable. Select ticketed events will be exchangeable. View our full Refund & Ticketing Policy for more information.
