Discover the sensory magic of felting and create an outdoor felt art installation in the Philbrook gardens with textile artist, Taylor Painter-Wolfe. Inspired by the tradition of yarn bombing, where crocheted or knitted work wraps or decorates mundane public space, campers will work together to bring felted beauty to the grounds of Philbrook. Campers will scout out a special area of Philbrook to transform, and then make their own felt by squishing, smashing, and shaking wool into felt. They’ll work as a team to decide if they’ll use their felt to cover a whole tree, create hanging felted work from railings outside, or make three dimensional sculptures to hang from trees. The possibilities are up to their imagination.

About the Teaching Artist: Taylor Painter-Wolfe
Taylor Painter-Wolfe is a fiber artist and art teacher from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She majored in fiber art at the Kansas City Art Institute where she learned how to make handmade, hand-dyed felted wool, which she used to create clothing, costumes, and fine art pieces. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2003, Taylor traveled extensively in Australia and Southeast Asia which greatly influenced her development as a fiber artist and inspired her to use elements of texture, shape, and pattern found in natural environments.

Here are a few things to know:

  1. We offer before and after care.
  2. Lunch is optional and catered through our onsite restaurant, and available for purchase at Monday morning check-in.
  3. We have a morning snack and afternoon snack built into the studio sessions.
  4. We use the whole museum, so we will go outside when the weather permits: please pack sunscreen and bug spray.
