Tulsa Artist Fellow, Shane Darwent explores the aesthetics of the urban environment through his sculptures. Some of his works are created by modifying awnings and transforming them into sculpture. To create this work Shane has collaborated with Awnings of Tulsa, a local business specializing in fabric and retractable awnings since 1987. This unexpected collaborative partnership between Shane and Awnings of Tulsa has resulted in works of art that feel both unexpected and yet profoundly familiar. One can’t help but look closer at the urban landscape after engaging with Shane’s work.

During this event participants will have the opportunity to see Shane’s work on display in the Philbrook Gardens. Guests then caravan to Awnings of Tulsa to see how the work is created.

This event is part of Philbrook’s Where Artist Work Series, a series where Philbrook collaborates with artists to share their practice with the community.
