In 2006, the Philbrook Museum of Art hosted “Bookworks: Exploring the Book as Art”. On display were works drawn primarily from the McFarlin Library Department of Special Collections at The University of Tulsa. Four years later, the museum has created a sequel, “Bookworks II”. This exhibition explores the broad spectrum of the book as art, beginning with the traditional book format as collaboration between the artist, craftsman and author. But it also presents examples in which the artist manipulates the book format without regard for text or content. Included in this exhibition are examples of block printing, pop-up and even a book in the form of a wine bottle. Included in this exhibition are works by Julie Chen and legendary author, Ursula K. Le Guin.
