Through a Glass, Darkly
(Philbrook, 2727 S. Rockford Rd.) Georges Rouault’s distinctive style suggests stained glass, featuring flattened figures, broad planes of jewel-like colors, and heavy black outlining. A deeply religious man, his subject matter tended toward the somber, yet also included light-hearted circus imagery. This exhibition presents prints and paintings executed between the 1920s and ‘40s, depicting subjects ranging from portraits to landscape.
