Painting in the Gardens

Experiment with the tradition of painting en plein-air, or outdoors, and see the Philbrook’s gardens in a way you never have before. Learn techniques from a professional artist-educator to create your own depictions of Philbrook in bloom.



Project: Object

Inspired by the "Object Project" exhibit, students will explore and interpret five common objects through different media, using charcoal, acrylic paint, oil pastel and torn paper.



Life Drawing: the Basics

Delve into your imagination for a fun, spur-of-the moment artistic expression with the magic of mosaics. With a technique called “spontaneous mosaic,” students will use organic materials like rock, shells and broken pottery to create their own original mosaic.

Life Drawing: Open Studio

These open studio sessions allow participants to practice drawing nude male and female models through gesture sketches. Intermediate to advanced skill level.



Master Class: Object Project

Date: Saturday, September 13, 2008

Michael Bergt, nationally-recognized painter and artist in the Philbrook exhibition The Object Project, will lead a workshop in egg tempera painting. With a level of amazing virtuosity, Bergt takes the traditional medium of egg tempera and creates rich, luminous and mysterious works. From mixing colors and applying the ground to the final glazing, Bergt will take students through step by step techniques for painting with tempera that they can then use in their own work.
